Crochet: La Vareta (Crochet: Double crochet)

En el tutorial anterior, vimos como hacer un medio punto, ahora vamos a aprender Varetas (o punto alto como se llama en algunas revistas). Este punto es muy importante para la mayoría de los patrones de tejidos.

In the last tutorial, we have seen how to do the single crochet, now we are going to learn de double crochet. Double crochet is very important for the majority of the crochet patterns.

Repetir.

Different from the single crochet, we will start wrapping the yarn over the crochet hook. Insert the hook where the stitch will go. Next, wrap the yarn over the crochet hook so that the hook part can grab the yarn. Pull the hooked yarn loop through the point where you inserted the hook. You should now have three loops on the hook. Wrap the yarn over your hook again, then draw it through the two loops closest to the end of the hook. You should now have two loops on the hook. Wrap the yarn over the hook again and draw it through the remaining loops on the hook.

Clear and easy to follow, thank you, and also for introducing the Spanish term “vareta” 😊

By the way, the yarn you’re using looks like a combination of glitter thread and matte cotton ? It’s super chic to crochet, especially in white !

P.S. I’ve been thinking of trying a similar yarn combo, but I still haven’t found the courage to experiment that far – I’m afraid to spoil good yarn!….

I’m so glad you like it!
and you are right. In the example that I’m showing there is a combination of 2 different yarns. And also 2 different stitches. The matte cotton is double crochet (the one that I have introduced in this post) and the glitter one (it is an acrylic yarn) it is single crochet (the stitch that we did in the prior post). They are both very light yellow.

My recommendation (always) is you do a sample of about 10 x 10 centimeters of the stitch and yarn that you are going to use; so that you will have a good view about how it will look…. and this is good not just for the colours or materials, also for having a good calculation about the size of your job (The thickness of the yarn will always influence the size of the piece)… I hope you find it usefull!!!

Yes, very much, Veronica, I do appreciate your friendly advice !
As a matter of fact, I always do the 10×10 tension check in knitting, but I just don’t yet have the habit of doing so in crochet and I have no idea why not.
As a result, I crochet to a certain point then if I find it unsatisfactory, I just unravel it and calculate anew, and start all over again…until it clicks 🙂 lol
        Big hugs🤗
